Britannia - the embodied spirit of Britain (in much the same way as Uncle Sam is used in the US).
An Empire on which the sun never set... etc. etc.
This was done as a favour to a friend of mind who could best be described (in this context) as having a rather... Victorian frame of mind.
EDIT: I am moving this to the scraps section. It seems to attract a disproportionate number of my viewers, and for the most part these viewers are not interested in anything else in my gallery. Perhaps if the attraction of erstwhile British patriots led to more traffic I would appreciate it more, but having something this bad as my most-faved piece is just silly.
EDIT 2: And of course, this picture has more favs than any of my other images (possibly more than all my other pictures COMBINED). Yet the image quality is so horrible it's a complete embarssment. Yep, same old DevArt.
I'd take it down if I didn't pray that maybe one in ten of the ideologues who fav this travesty would stop and look at some of my other less-terrible junk.
Very nice. I don't care what you say, your coloring skills are just fine. Love the bright colors and the sort of overall godlike shimmer of Britannia herself.

Theres some lovely work on Britannias face there... I like the way she looks less like the typical greek goddess version of herself here, more like a working girl from the east end of Victorian London (laughs)... A great facial expression. That and the drunken fanatisism of the soldiers at her feet say it all...
Absolutely fantastic. I love everything about this picture. I really like the different types soldiers, and Brittania, looking like Queen Boudicca with her trident and captured Roman helm...
yep it was once said that patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundral, its certainly true in my case
besides its a really good picture...you put alot of effort into it considering your not a Brit
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.
